The first piece of advice is making full use of starter quests. Starter quests will give you basic harvesting equipment such as axe, instead you buy them. As for weapons, drag your weapons onto your hotbar in order to make quick change rather than go through the paper doll. This is very important: if you have lost your life because of an npc hit spacebar. For the “self-gank”, you are suggested to wait 15sec or more. The time is still shorter than the time spent on waiting the entire incap time.
