A stock market is a place for people trading of company stock and goods at an agreed price. Securities are listed on a stock exchange and some only traded privately.
It was estimated that the size of the world stock market is at about $36.6 trillion US at the beginning of October 2008 while world derivatives market totally has been estimated at about $791 trillion face or nominal value which is eleven times the size of the entire world economy. In terms of notional values, the value of the derivatives market can not be directly compared to a stock or a fixed income security. A fixed income security is traditionally called as an actual value.
Stock exchanges are entities of a corporation or mutual organization which are specialized in the form of bringing buyers and sellers of the organizations to a listing of stocks and securities together. The trading of all securities is included in the stock market in the US.
