In some games, magic points can be gained over time while they are recoverable by a character taking a break in others. Other possibilities for requiring MP are stealing or absorbing them from other characters or from the ether. Eating food or drinking magic fluids is also a resource for MP.
In many western computer games, the magic points gauge is described as being blue rather than the red or green that the hit points gauge is depicted as. There are those colors in the user interface and in the game's items or spells. There are two specific examples: a red potion stands for healing and a blue potion is used for restoring magic.
