Distinction between MOG and MMOG
27 Aug 2009

When it comes to Massive in MMOGs, it refers to a large gathering of thousands of players in MMOGs. MOG (Multiplayer online games) is typically video games, but they are not always run on dedicated servers. Most of the MOG domains are run together with collocated hosting or reseller hosts, which is often the reason of keeping the costs of running such a game to a minimum compared to commercial MMOG.
Commercially Unsuccessful MMOG’s have the same number of registered players that would be compareble to a MOG, such as Miniconomy. This leads to the defining line thin of between what makes an MMOG a MOG and vice versa.
The defining difference is rather technical, because most of the MMOG's are run with the same database and have a single gaming environment on a server.
